Rhodes, Greece – The Jewel Of The Aegean And The Perfect Holiday Destination!

admin | July 4th, 2010 - 9:16 am

The island of Rhodes lies in the south-east corner of the Aegean sea, close to the Turkish mainland.

In Greek mythology, the green and lush island of Rhodes, child of the goddess of love, Aphrodite, rose up out of the Aegean Sea as a peace offering to the Greek god of sun, Helios. Helios promptly flooded the island in sunshine and made it the sunniest of the Greek islands.

Throughout time, the island of the sun’s strategically important geographical position has made Rhodes particularly attractive to many different people – friends and foe – and many have left their mark on the island in the forms of art, language and architecture. Today’s visitors find Rhodes a sunny, cosmopolitan hub of life offering culture, history, nature and entertainment.

Of particular historical and cultural importance are the medieval city of Rhodes, built by the Knights of St John and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient acropolis of Lindos and the ancient city of Kamiros. For those more interested in nature and its grandeur, a visit to Prasonisi, at the very southern tip of the island, is a must, as is a visit to the Valley of the Butterlies and Seven Springs. On a religious note, orthodox churches and monasteries are copious in number and to be found in even the most remote of areas.

Beaches and bays are in abundance around the coastline of Rhodes: In the Faliraki area the main sandy beach is well organised with good facilities and numerous watersport and mini cruise stations. The nearby bays of Anthony Quinn, Ladiko and Tragunu are smaller, more graphic, less accessible bays hidden from view and favoured by locals. The recently renovated Kallithea Spa, an Italian monument built around the bay of Kallithea, is an area renowned for its excellent snorkelling and scuba diving attributes. Further south, along the east coast of the island, are the bays of Afandou, Colimbia, Tsambika, Stegna and Haraki. The bay of Lindos is known as the ‘jewel of Rhodes’ and is a mecca for all visitors to the island. South of Lindos, beyond Pefkos, the largest resort hotels can be found; this area is relatively undeveloped and isolated when compared to the north of the island, as is the rugged, windy west coast.

Beyond these natural and historical places of interest Rhodes is home to the biggest water park in Europe, an aquarium, numerous museums, cinemas and excellent designer shopping. Rhodes is also well positioned for day excursions to the other Dodecanese islands such as Symi, Kos, Tilos and to Marmaris, Turkey – check out Falirak Sea Lines for timetables.

In short, Rhodes is an unbeatable holiday destination – even the most demanding visitor will be impressed!

Choosing Your Cruise Destination

admin | June 29th, 2010 - 1:15 pm

Taking a cruise can be one of the most exciting vacations that you take in your lifetime. Adventure, relaxation, exploration, extravagant parties, exquisite dining, free entertainment, and eye-opening experiences are all yours to be had when you book a cruise with Princess Cruise Lines or another popular line. A cruise vacation literally puts the world at your doorstep. Imagine being able to step out of your stateroom to a different exotic view each and every morning or being able to watch the sun set in a different port of call each evening.

The truth of the matter is that cruise vacations are unparalleled when it comes to providing an unforgettable experience crammed packed with more variety than you could ever believe possible from a week-long vacation. But you need to be careful when choosing your package because different destinations will provide you with completely different experiences. The size boat that you choose will also determine what types of ports that you will be able to see. As you can see, there are a lot of things to consider when choosing where to go on your the cruise of your dreams.

The destination of your cruise determines much more than just the type of scenery that you will see. Cruises to the Mediterranean are well-known for their party till the sun comes up itineraries. Sea voyages to Alaska, on the other hand, are more reserved and focus on sightseeing and wildlife. There are also trips that are very educational and will take you to see historical and ecological wonders. Others will slowly meander through tropical waters and make leisurely stops at brilliant white beaches. The bottom line is this: You can take a cruise to any part of the world that you would like to see and do virtually anything that you want to do. But first, you have to decide on a package.

Mediterranean packages are extremely popular, but you need to be careful when selecting your package since some itineraries are created with tourism in mind and others with nightlife and partying in mind. For example: Two different cruises to the Mediterranean may stop at the same ports of call but for entirely two different reasons depending on which ship you book on. The first ship might stop at Barcelona and Rome just like the second one but may feature guided tours to top tourist attractions. The second ship may avoid the tourist scene and focus instead on the culture and nightlife to be found in the area.

Keep in mind that different packages will attract different types of vacationers and that there are themed cruises that cater to a certain group of people. A slow-paced, educational theme may attract seniors where as a party cruise will attract young couples with no children. Mixing your vacation with a group of people that are your exact opposite may make for a long voyage rather than the fun trip that you had envisioned.

A typical Mediterranean cruise will include several ports of call including Barcelona, Villefranche, Rome, Naples and Florence. You will probably have an opportunity to visit all of the main tourist attractions such as Pompeii and the islands that hold the history and archeology of man’s earliest civilizations. You may find yourself water skiing, shopping till you drop in Barcelona, scuba diving or playing with the rich and famous in Monte Carlo.

If you prefer something a little more slow-paced without as many stops along the way, a voyage along the Alaskan inside passage might be just the thing. Inside passage cruises are so popular because they offer a close and unique view into the exotic beauty of Alaska’s ice-glazed land surfaces. Nearly 5% of this beautiful state is covered in ice fields in glaciers which provide a home for wildlife such as humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, dolphins, brown bears and bald eagles.

While you will be able to visit some hard to access ports such as Juneau, Skagway, Haines, Ketchikan and Victoria on an inland cruise, the majority of your time will be spent aboard ship watching the majestic glaciers slip by within feet of the ship. You will be able to visit and view botanical gardens, spectacular waterfalls, and quaint towns. Certain itineraries even give passengers the opportunity to land on Annette Island and to be greeted by the Tsimshian elders of Metlakatla.

But perhaps the best part about an Alaskan cruise is that it is calm, quiet, and less crowded than other types of cruises. Many destinations frequently visited on an Alaskan cruise are sparsely inhabited which makes for an experience that is entirely different from the shoulder-to-shoulder tourist feel of the Mediterranean’s top spots.

As you can see from just these two examples, your vacation could be as lively or relaxing as you wish to make it. You can also choose what types of people are on the ship with you by booking passage on a themed cruise. Some of the most popular theme cruises include gay cruises; adventure cruises; honeymoon cruises; family cruises; disabled cruises; singles cruises; and you can also go nude

There is no limit to the variety that can be found in a sea vacation. Young or old, gay or straight, single or married with kids, adventurous or laid back, it doesn’t matter; there is a cruise that is perfect for you. So pay attention to detail, examine your options, and book the vacation of a lifetime with Princess Cruise Lines or another popular line today.

Capri, Italy: A Destination for the Young and Beautiful

admin | June 28th, 2010 - 9:15 pm

If you wish to have fun and enjoy at leisure with your partner on a short visit in Italy, Capri is the right place. It is a beautiful little paradise island, which is ideal for young lovers or couples and for the pairs, who believe being so. It is also an exciting resort for the honey moon; if you have heard of a popular movie Blow hot, blow cold, it was made in Capri! The isle is red with clayey soil and is believed to have been invaded, during war times. The rocky island is coral culture around.

This small place for fun can be reached in an hour sailing in ferry or a hydro in less than an hour from Naples, a town western end of Italy and closer to the capital Rome. Caprit is closer from Sorrento, and it takes half of the time to sail on sea, you may choose a longer pleasurable journey. It is exciting to travel either way to Capri. To reach by road, you can take the motorway A1 or A14 from the East to Naples. However, do remember that you cannot use your car in the island, unless you are a foreigner. Of course, Rome can be reached by air or train and then by a local transport to reach Sorrento or Naples.

The specialty of Capri is the charming sail around the isle. As you sail you see pinky corals clinging on to the rocky mountain. The coast drive around is the most pleasurable but do not have expectations of beaches, although there are some tiny ones. An unforgettable memory will be created, when you sail in small boats and go into the large cave in to the dark rocks lighted gently with bluish sea water. The Capri Town has to do has good hotels, an old church and perceivable feel of holiday. Most people make it a day trip, but an overnight stay is exciting with the quiet isle surrounded, later in the evening, after the crowds of day trippers have gone, and you will also wake up a stunningly marvelous and pleasant morning.

Capri has hotels that fit into most pockets, and it also offers up to five star classes of luxury hotels. However, it makes sense to stay at Naples over a night to visit Capri by the next day, keeping an option to spend the night at Capri. Naples and Sorrento offer a variety of hotels to choose from.

Just in case you are on a longer holiday, you can take a tour with an operator on the sea to see Sicily and Venice, surrounded by waters. The other of place interest is Genoa Harbor and a journey by train will be memorable along the sea shore with sea on one side and tall mountains on the other side, you will cruise through very many long tunnels. When you see this miraculous Capri once in your life, you will recommend anyone for a cruise down there!

Capri is a beautiful island to visit, but it can become an expensive trip. Check out the Capri prices at out Travel costs website.

Destination Review: 6 More Beautiful But Dangerous Vacations

admin | June 27th, 2010 - 9:15 am

Most of the world tourist destinations are attractive because of their natural beauty, the warmth and consistency of their climate and the friendliness of the locals. But of course it is also true that these same places can be as dangerous as they are attractive, and if you decide to travel without adequate travel insurance you could be treading a very unsteady path.

Let’s look at some travel destinations that would not generally be classified as dangerous, but where there lurks a sting in the tail of an otherwise exciting holiday.

New Zealand. Who would ever think that there was anything dangerous about New Zealand? As a general rule this is one of the most beautiful countries on earth, and tourists can bask in the countryside that is safe and secure. But if you should ever travel to the glaciers, like the Fox Glacier for example, and you could find yourself in a very slippery situation indeed. Tourists who are unaware of the inherent dangers of ice climbing can become victims to climate changes leaving them stranded and awaiting rescue.
New York. Everyone knows that New York is the centre of Western capitalism containing shopping precincts reputed to be the best in the world. Put that together with the world’s best theatre and you have a truly popular destination. But venture into Central Park after-hours and you’ll find a different world of violence and danger.
Mumbai. Known as the city of seven islands, Mumbai is the quintessential Indian city that has everything to offer the tourist. Glamour, Bollywood, wonderfully distinctive cuisine and home to thousands of street sellers that offer every delight known to man, what could possibly go wrong? Like any major city, the streets are full of conmen and dangerous criminal gangs who will prey upon the unlikely innocence of any tourist with apparent disdain.
The Philippines. A frequent pawn in the sea battles of the Western Pacific during World War II and a strategic location demanding the presence of heavy American military might, this nation of islands is an attractive destination because of the spicy nightlife, the wonderful beaches and warm friendly people. It is also home to wandering gangs of vandals and thieves who prey upon tourists who venture into dangerous districts after hours.
Bali. Once a tourist mecca for hundreds of thousands of tourists looking for a tropical paradise, this small island promised and delivered everything. But with the arrival of militant Islamic extremists, the tourist can no longer feel safe anymore.
Fiji. Beneath the surface of this tropical island paradise, where the natives a friendly, the hotel is a cheap and the tourist facilities are of five-star standard, there lurks an ever-increasing danger of a militant uprising which threatens not just the tourist industry but the tourists themselves.

The overview of these six wonderful tourist destinations is not meant to deter the everyday tourist. It is simply presented to remind you of the dangers present in any holiday that require a commonsense approach and a proper international travel insurance package to make sure your trip is enjoyable from start to finish.

Travel Insuranz offers travel insurance you can rely on with secure online transaction and instant email certificate. So all you need do is relax and enjoy your trip. For more information or a free quote, visit Travel Insurance Online .

Choosing a Budget Friendly Vacation Destination

admin | June 27th, 2010 - 1:15 am

When you are trying to stretch  your travel budget, be flexible with your destination. Huge Las Vegas casinos and giant theme parks are wonderful places to visit, but they can be a drain on the budget if you let them. Having said that, I love Las Vegas and you can have a vacation there without spending the earth. There is a lot of free entertainment there. However there are often better deals to be found at more out of the way places. The more open you are to exploring non-traditional vacation destinations, the more likely you are to find opportunities to travel less expensively. For some fantastic budget travel tips visit http://www.world-travel-options.com/budget-travel.html

One way to start exploring your destination options is to make a list of the things that you like to do on vacation. Is it important to you that there is a beach available? Do you prefer vacation sports and activities that would require special equipment, such as mountains, hiking paths, or snow? Do you want a quiet romantic getaway? Think about some of your favorite vacation memories. Where were you and what were you doing that made them so special?

Some of the popular destinations that you choose might have less widely-known similar
places available. Think outside the box and don’t narrow the playing field to the top ten locations that you can come up with off the top of your head. Do some research to find out what locations you might not have considered that have something wonderful to offer. A good place to start your research is  http://www.world-travel-options.com

How do you find out what vacation destinations may interest you? Look for deals for specific destinations on your favorite travel and accommodation sites. Find out the cheapest airfare packages and plan a vacation around that destination. You can use a map to look up cities that are close in climate and geography to a more popular vacation destination.

Find out what they have to offer by visiting the city’s Chamber of Commerce website.
You can also get ideas from the blogs and travel reviews of others who travel frequently.

There are many other exotic locations and inexpensive places waiting to be explored. The main thing to remember is to relax and enjoy your vacation.

Bride Guide #10 – Susan Breslow on Destination Weddings

admin | June 21st, 2010 - 5:15 pm

Susan Breslow is an expert on destination weddings and the author of “Destination Weddings for Dummies.” This week she shares insider tips from her years of experience about having the destination wedding that’s right for you.

Affordable and Practical Destination Weddings

admin | June 20th, 2010 - 3:15 am

Many brides dream of an exotic, faraway wedding destination. As they begin thinking and planning after their engagement, these same brides begin to have a bit of a ‘reality check.’ Not only is it expensive to fly somewhere far away and get married, but the majority of their chosen guests aren’t able to make it due to time and/or money constraints.

Here are some ideas to overcome such issues, and still hold an unforgettable, unique destination wedding. Note: We’ve chosen the U.S. as an example as most of our readers are in the U.S., and also because, with its vast and varied geography, there are plenty of options.

Florida Keys: If you’re dreaming about the turquoise waters and palm trees of the Caribbean or Hawaii, the Keys might just fill the bill. Miami, the closest international airport, is easy to fly into, and it’s jsut a couple of hours by rental car to the beautiful Keys. You’ll find many lovely resorts down this southernmost stretch of the U.S., and the waters are clear and turquoise as far as the eye can see. There is a fun, laid back and tropical atmosphere in the Florida Keys – the folks are friendly and there are many pretty bed and breakfast places with gorgeous tropical courtyards perfect for an intimate wedding. Key West is famous for its sunsets, and has many beautiful little hide-away gems.

Las Vegas:Before you scoff, keep reading. Vegas has way more to offer than just gambling. If, for instance, you’ve dreamed of a romantic European wedding, you can recreate the scene beautifully in one of Vegas’ themed hotels. There’s Paris, complete with mini Eiffel tower; there’s the Venetian replete with canals and singing gondola drivers. Some of the fancier hotels such as the Belaggio, with its European-inspired gardens, and the very private Mansion at MGM Grand are elegantly European in style and offer a stunning backdrop for a wedding. Additionally, flights to Las Vegas are frequent and usually quite affordable because it is such a popular destination, and many people would be willing to spend a night or two away to go to Vegas. There’s plenty of otehr things for your guests to do while in town, and you’ll likely be able to negotiate a group hotel discount for your guests.

Cape Cod:If your vision of beaches is more austere and upscale, you may fidn the perfect setting for a wedding in upper the East, in places such as Cape Cod. Imagine windswept beaches, crying gulls and romantic starlit nights…and a rustic yet upscale seaside location for your wedding. Many beautiful homes on the ocean are for rent in this region, and would make a fantastic wedding venue. Bring in loads of white candles and seashells and you’re all set for a simple, elegant affair that will be fairly easy for your guests to make it to.

Oregon:Breathe the fresh air and the scent of ancient pines as you take your wedding vows at the foot of magnificent mountains, with a backdrop of a spectacular sunset. Sound good? Then the state of Oregon might be just what you’re looking for. Because it shares both coast and mountains in close proximity, Oregon boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the entire country. What better setting for an unforgettable beginning to your new life?

There you have it! You can lots of ideas for unique destination weddings when you get your imagination rolling. These few should get you started.

If you negotiate hotel room deals for your guests and give them plenty of notice, you’ll find that many people will come. No passports needed and no huge expense covers two of the major objections.

Tip: Consider hiring a local babysitter or two for the evening to watch the kids and let your kids have a fabulous time without worries. Enjoy!

Destination Wedding Steeped in Cultural Tradition With a Spicy Latin Twist!

admin | June 19th, 2010 - 7:17 pm

Costa Rica is quickly becoming the #1 choice for destination weddings for many creative couples. Whether your dream setting is beach, a mountain top, or hanging from a ZipLine 100 feet above the floor of the rainforest, a destination wedding in Costa Rica will not disappoint.

This tiny Central American country has more variety of environments and desirable settings to offer than almost anyplace on earth. First there is such a wide range of micro climates such as the Rainforest, dry cool Cloudforest or choose from an oceanfront beach ceremony on not just one coast….but your choice of the waves of the vast and mighty Pacific Ocean or the white sand and turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
Yes, it’s true….one paradise, two oceans.

Many couples seek wild eco-adventure, some are looking for a casual atmosphere and warm weather year-round, some for terrific value in an exotic location…Costa Rica offers them all. The most common thread with most of these couples is to preserve some elements of cultural or religious tradition in their ceremony while still enjoying the exotic scenery, celebrating their raw, adventurous sides and creating one-of-a-kind memories for the whole group that weren’t just popped out of a mold in a factory like many typical weddings.

One very vibrant couple made this dream a reality while creatively combining centuries-old East Indian tradition with a spicy Latin twist.

This was no ordinary East Indian wedding.

The setting was Los Sueños Resort and Marina on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.

This particular couple has a passion for a tropical environment and the sea so they also wanted a beachfront wedding. The question was…how do they achieve it all…all in one amazing place?

They really had an interesting mix of requirements and a travel planner in the U.S. recommended they consider Los Sueños, just a 2 hour drive from the capital city of San Jose (soon to be a 1 hour drive when the new national highway opens in early 2010)

The family knew they had some challenges ahead with such unique requirements and it would take a very special, dedicated team to pull off all the complicated and specialized details.

They visited the Los Suenos resort, met with the CR Luxury Wedding Coordinator, explained their requests and requirements, and decided they’d found exactly what they wanted.

A Pre-wedding visit to experience the destination, the resort or hotel is highly recommended. Some venues even have a program allowing a one or two night complimentary visit, site tour and planning meeting.

Many hotels and resorts also offer a special bridal package which sometimes might include items like a complimentary cake, flower arrangement, banquet room and even a honeymoon suite at no charge for the bride and groom with a certain number of condominiums or hotel rooms booked for friends and family.

Check with the group sales department, reservations department, concierge or wedding planner for each venue you are considering and ask what offers they may extend and how much value you will receive for your dollars spent. Always consult a professional when preparing for a destination wedding either through the services of an independent planner or an “in-house” wedding coordinator.

Someone with expert knowledge of the location and great relationships with local vendors can help provide every detail and pull it off without even the slightest bump in the process. Well, almost any event planner will tell you; “there are bumps in carrying out any event…but a true professional will identify issues and find a creative solution to remedy the situation quickly where everyone in attendance will see only a hugely successful, joyful event”. The most important thing in almost any wedding planning process is to minimize the stress and maximize the pleasure of the entire experience from the first visit and consideration of the location, through the return home from the honeymoon.

The couple was amazed at how a team in Latin America, who never previously had any contact with East Indian culture, stepped right in, were happy to assist with every unusual detail and never were flustered by even a fleeting thought, of not being able to deliver every wish .

This well-traveled bride, grew up in Costa Rica and still has family in the country so she knows first hand all the wonders that Costa Rica and Latin America have to offer. She knew this was the perfect place to bond their relationship and blend the two, vastly different cultures she calls her own.

Once the plans were made they flew from their home in Boston and after a few days in the city it was time to head west toward the Pacific coast to Los Sueños to begin the elaborate 3 day celebration.

The group arrived at Los Suenos Resort, checked in with the CR Luxury Diamond Concierge Team and the family met with their personal “in-house” wedding coordinator who immediately put them at ease ahd had every detail covered. Next stop….AAAAhhhhhhhh!

The bride said” Once everyone arrived and checked into their luxury condominiums, everyone was so relaxed…..I think this set a great mood for the entire trip right away.”

It was November 26th, the day before Thanksgiving family did not want to miss that tradition either. The CR Luxury Concierge ordered a full Thanksgiving Dinner that was delivered to the family at their condominium.

This was another great example of the blending of cultures…An American Celebration, enjoyed by an East Indian family across the street from the rainforest, in Costa Rica! This just goes to show what a warm welcome can be found for all cultures in this little Latin American paradise!

The bride also tells us that the luxury condominiums were “such a great decision”. They all enjoyed a beautiful, spacious home that allowed everyone to be comfortable and gather together several times and enjoy each other’s company as a family and as a group. She also told us that they were impressed at how the units are so well kept. She said that the time shared and closeness would not have been possible if they were all staying in a luxury hotel.

Arrangements were made for the first ceremonial events…the ladies participated in a ritual called Mehndi and they flew in a special Henna artist from Toronto for the event while the family men gathered for drinks at sunset and enjoyed a memorable time.

The next event called Sangeet, began almost immediately afterward…poolside at the private, Los Sueños Beach Club.
Just another example of blending of the scenery of this Latin American paradise and rich East Indian culture.
The Sangeet event began with drinks and appetizers, being served.
While the guests were sipping and dining, there were dance and musical performances, the Newlywed Game and an open mic for speeches from friends.

Then came the wedding day and it was spectacular right from the start!

In a more typical setting the family and guests of the groom would proceed together fully costumed and decorated to the home of the bride for the wedding ceremony. For this creative couple, there was an exciting twist!

With the groom’s dressed in formal East Indian wedding attire, he mounts a horse and the group of family and guests begin the colorful procession, called Baraat winding through the Los Sueños resort toward the Beach Club for Milni where the bride’s family greets the groom’s for the ritual exchange of garlands.

The wedding couple were married on a stage with floral alter specially designed and built right here in Costa Rica of wood with a steel bowl for a special fire just for this particular ceremony.

A tented beachfront reception, decorated in linens and ribbon of white, gold and green followed the ceremony. Drinks and appetizers were served as well as a fantastic, authentic dinner catered by the family’s favorite restaurant East Indian restaurant from San Jose.

This lovely bride commented that every task and request, no matter how unique, strange or unconventional, from a horse for the groom’s procession to a specially built stage and alter was possible due to the “can do” attitude of the CR Luxury Diamond Concierge team.

The beach, rainforest covered mountains, outdoor venues, spacious luxury accommodations and the oceanfront views allowed this modern, young couple to create a very personalized, unique series of events which blended their rich East Indianheritage with their love for the beach and the tropics for a spicy Latin twist!

This was an example of just one couple’s unique creative dream wedding.

Never let your wedding dreams have limits…reach for the sky…right here in Costa Rica!
